Carl Sandburg College LIteracy Coalition
Carl Sandburg College Literacy Coalition provides the following services:
Tutoring at no charge by volunteer literacy tutors for people 16 and over, not in public school and who function below 9th grade or SPL 7 (nonnative speakers of English). Books and materials are provided at no charge and volunteer tutor training is also provided at no charge.
Areas of tutoring include the following:
* Reading
* Writing
* Math
* Life Skills
* Job Skills
* English as a Second Language
* U. S. Citizenship
SOAR - a youth volunteer program at libraries and sites throughout Knox County during the summer. Kids ages 10 - 16 complete training and meet at libraries/sites at scheduled times to read with young children.
Babies Need Books - folders of information about family reading are delivered to families of newborns at area hospitals by Baby Talk. Included in the folders in information from the Galesburg Public Library, University of Illinois Extension Service, Knox County Health Department and Bright Futures.
